Road Trip to Kelowna – Highway 3

After living in Metro Vancouver for 5+ years, I realized the farthest north I have gone is Whistler (and then not even for skiing), farthest west is Victoria, farthest east is Abbostford and farthest south, well, crossing the Canada-US border. So, in mid-June, I took three vacation days and decided, for the first time, go BC interior, in this case, Kelowna. Instead of writing about it, I would rather use a photo essay approach.

Highway 3?! Yes, I chose the long route, since I was in no hurry to get to Kelowna. Total trip from Vancouver to Kelowna (including a stop for lunch and stops to take picture): 7.5 hours!

I did this same route in May! Try doing it with a baby in the car (my nephew and I went alone on a road trip). It’s beautiful but I was nervous about how remote hiway 3 is, with no cell reception, because I had the kid in the car.

    Great blog by the way.

    Hi Jessica,

Thanks for your comments! I did not check my cell phone reception but I was more concerned with something else: On several places, I was going a bit faster than expected and ran into several hairpin-like turns. I was afraid I was not going to turn on time and end up hitting the guard rail, if not outright fall of a cliff! It was fun but, next time, I will be taking the Coquihalla instead.
