Old Memories – 2001 Flavors Pizza

Yesterday, I mentioned about my wacky memories of Falafel King. Today, is about another place I fondly remember: 2001 Flavors Pizza. I first wrote about it a couple of months ago while I was guest blogging for Jessica and, again, since I am now working in the Downtown Vancouver area, I could not help myself and go there.

I arrived around 6:00 p.m. and, almost as expected, it was busy. While waiting for my turn, I check their special for the day: BBQ chicken, potato and cheddar. It reminded me a post in Eat.Sleep..Dream…Food by shokutsu about pizza with not-your-usual ingredients, so I knew I had to order it. Fortunately, or unfortunately, they did not have any at the moment and had to wait for a couple of minutes (it was already in the oven). Hungry? Yes but I could wait, so…


In addition to the BBQ chicken pizza (bottom right), I also ordered a slice of vegetable.

Along with a can of pop, it was just under $5.

So, how was the pizza? Just like with Falafel King, ingredient-wise, I am well aware this is not necessarily the best pizza in the world. As for the taste, well, it is quite difficult to describe, as it is an adventure in its own way! Depending on the time of the day, the pizza you want (or available), it might be a steamy hot slice just out of the oven which might be really bad in a veggie slice, yet good in a meat-lover slice. Also, it might have been sitting there for a while, which means the crust is has lost all its texture and taste like a soggy thin flatbread.

In the case of the ones I ordered, the veggie was sitting there for a while but not too long. The fact there was a lot of veggies made it taste like a open sandwich made with soft bread. The cheese in the BBQ chicken pizza tasted lightly like cheddar and the potato was soft, without contrasting too much the texture of the crust. The chicken was well cooked, although I wished there was more chicken. And most importantly, you could really taste the BBQ sauce, which gave a different twist.

Overall, despite it is not the fanciest pizza parlour, it was good. Worth dropping by…

    Thanks for the trackback. Not surprised to hear there are other unusual takes on pizza toppings/combinations out there. That sure is a lot of olives. Which for me is like Kryptonite to Superman, I just can’t stand those things. You take really good closeup images of pizza! Hope you continue to enjoy re-connecting to old haunts now that you are back working in the West End…

    I did not like olives either but I learn to tolerate them. I think it was thanks to the so-called Greek salad that I learned to appreciate it a bit more.

    As for unusual pizza, once I ordered a pizza with tuna (canned, not sashimi grade, which would have been a waste), mushroom and extra cheese. Everybody skipped that one and went for their usual pizza instead. It was actually quite good!
