Sometimes, I just want a simple meal. And by simple I mean, nothing exotic, fuzzy or complicated. Added to the fact I was supposed to travel the following day meant eating out (hey, not dishes to clean, trash to take out, etc.). That’s how I ended up in Curry King Cafe.

Jang Mo Jib (Burnaby)

For some reason, in my mind, Jang Mo Jib is one of the most sucessful Korean restaurants. After all, why would they open several locations in Metro Vancouver? Having been there previously… OK, not really, it was in a food court but you know what I mean. That one experience was a positive one and, since it was in a food court, that gave me reason enough to visit one of their full fledged restaurant. In this case, their most recent location, in Burnaby, near Metrotown.

Irashai Grill

Irashai Grill was brought to my attention when shokutsu (of Eat.Sleep..Dream…Food) mentioned it on the commentary section of a post about Blowfish Sushi Lounge in Calgary, Alberta and omakase. While I am all up to give it a try, the thoughts of dropping $100 to “entrust” a chef whom you have no prior experience and give him/her complete control over your meal is not something I am comfortable with. So, I though “hey, they are open for lunch. Maybe I should give it a try to see how is the food before I go for omakase!” (Oh, I should mention I work a couple of blocks away from Irashai Grill).

Burger Heaven

Let’s face it. When it comes to food in Metro Vancouver, New Westminster is not in anybody’s picture. In fact, other than Kirin (in Starlight Casino), there isn’t any “big name” restaurants there. And that is stretching it a little bit, as Starlight Casino is the New West’s side of Lulu Island (where Richmond is located)…

One restaurant that recently has caught my attention is Burger Heaven which, although is considered one of the best burger places in Metro Vancouver, has flown below almost everybody’s radar. I had to find out who got it wrong: the media in general or we bloggers…

Kirin – Downtown Vancouver

Kirin

I am not sure what to think about Kirin (Dowtown location). There is a lot of positive reviews yet, in the couple of times I have been there, it did not “wow” me. How (Or how it does not)? Well, it is just that it does not have anything that stands out over othe dim sum places. Sure, there might have some more fancy version of some dishes but that is about it, nothing spectacular.

Some work colleagues wanted to go there for lunch and that gave me the opportunity to check if it has changed since the last time I have been there (a couple of years ago already)…

Pork! – Wang Korean BBQ Sauce

by KimHo on November 16, 2008 under: Food

Like any good Chinese-born and raised, my favourite type of meat is pork. In a way, it is a part of us! However, I haven’t had as much as I wished lately, so I knew I had to cook some myself… Now, I wanted to try something “different”, in this case, with Korean BBQ sauce…

OK, it says “beef” but that should not prevent me from trying it with pork, right?

Tom & Jerry’s

Tom & Jerry's on Urbanspoon

Despite the odd name, this is still a restaurant post, OK? No, no kidding!

On statutory holidays, if you want to eat out, it might be a challenge. At lot of restaurants might or might not be open. On Remembrance Day, I chose to eat out and, out of the 3 places I had on a list, all of them were closed. Ouch. However, I remembered: one days like this, one type of restaurants is almost guaranteed to be open: diners. Don’t ask me how I reached this conclusion… Since I was driving in Hastings, I kept on driving and stopped at the first one I found: Tom -n- Jerry’s.
