For a change, a post about snack…
English can be a really funny language. Nouns like crisps, pudding, et al, have different meanings depending on which side of the pond you are. Hmmmm….
I might have seen Raincoast Crisps in the past; the first time it actually caught my attention was in my trip to Kelowna. For some unknown reason, I did not purchase a pack while I was there; instead, when I saw them in a local shop, I did not hesitate to grab one (or two in this case! $6 each).

It was not until I looked closely at the box that I realized this was produced locally here in BC! As seen in the picture above, the company is Lesley Stowe Fine Food.

So how was it? The answer will be “depends”… Out of the two, the original one was… too basic (for the lack of a better word/phrase); however, the rosemary/raisin/pecan (RRP, for short here) was really good! While the original one did not have anything distinct, the RRP had an interesting balance of sweet and crunchy. In fact, they should have borrowed Pringle’s catchphrase: “Once you pop, you can’t stop”! Needless to say, I will get some more, though next time, I will try to get the other flavours, Cranberry Hazelnut and Fig and Olive. And, of course, rather than eating them straight, get some cheeses to go along! ^_^

Snacks
A couple of weeks/months ago, while guest blogging, I wrote some post about chicken, specifically, fried chicken (check here, here and here). Of course, my quest did not end with those post (in fact, I left out a post for Church’s…); that might as well be an eternal quest.
When I was working in Richmond, I was told about a fried chicken restaurant in No. 5 Road and Cambie; but I kept going to restaurants in No. 3 Road and/or Garden City. In an odd twist, now that I don’t even work nearby, something was bugging me. It was like that proverbial itch… So, That’s how I ended up in L.A. Chicken…

Cinch Cafe
1517 Robson St
Vancouver, BC V6G

Most restaurants in Robson Street go to the extremes to make themselves noticeable. Be it big signs or somebody standing outside handling pamphlets to passers-by, almost anything seems to be fair game. However, Cinch Cafe, where I went for lunch a couple of days ago, does not seem to follow that trend. In fact, I have passed by so many times and, although I knew there was *something* there, it never caught my attention. If it wasn’t because of a suggestion from a colleague…

Yoshi
689 Denman St
Vancouver, BC V6G

We had an out-of-town guest and, in an odd twist, our guest (from Texas) wanted sushi for lunch. We were in the West End area and ended up in a really odd situation. Although we are aware of a lot of sushi places, going from good to bad, the problem was rather, which one to go? After all, we wanted to make sure our guest left with a good impression of Vancouver (opposite from the reaction I had when I was in Baltimore). After discussing for a while, we settled up for Yoshi…

Griffins (at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver)
900 W Georgia St
Vancouver, BC V6C

[Note: This will be a quick entry as I did not take that many pictures... Sorry!]
In my opinion, when it comes to eating at hotels, there is one consistent thing: “cheap” it won’t be. Whether it is good eats or not, well, that’s tricky. A lot of times, we set our expectations way too high and end up completely disappointed. Now, don’t get me wrong, we might not be completely responsible for it. Sometimes, it might be the hotel’s hype; sometimes publications push our expectations higher than what it should be.
When my manager organized a team lunch, several options were given and, in the end, Griffins, a restaurant at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver was chosen. Since I have not been there before, it was a good opportunity to try it – without footing the bill, I might say! ^_^

Breka Bakery
6533 Fraser St
Vancouver, BC V5X

I think there are obvious reasons why you can find good eats in the intersection of major streets. Whether is it is a strip mall or a market, just drive by and it will be there. One sort-of a major road in Vancouver that strikes me odd is Fraser Street. While there are a lot of residences in the area and a major school, culinary-wise looks like a wasteland. No, it is not that there aren’t eateries or marketplaces, rather the quality of them. I once went to buy some buns in a restaurant near John Oliver Secondary (Fraser Street and 41st Avenue) and had to throw them away after a bite.
While driving in the area a couple of days ago, I noticed a bakery that looks relatively busy so I couldn’t help myself stop by and get something…

Phillips Seafood
301 Light Street, Baltimore, Maryland

While in Baltimore, a lot of people (both local and from other places) mentioned I must have crab cakes. When I asked the locals, there were back and forth arguments as to where to have some. In the end, I left it to fate: I walked again by Harborplace (since there were so many restaurants there) and noticed there was a seafood restaurant. That’s how I ended up in Phillips Seafood.
