Posh
#105 – 6462 Kingsway
Burnaby, BC

Whenever groups of friends meet, there is somebody left in charge of organizing the event. Guess who was the lucky one? With all different likes and don’t likes (specially the later), this ain’t an easy task but, alas, somebody has to do it! Since nobody had a suggestion, in the end, in a tyrannical-like decision process, I chose Posh.

A couple of things I must mention: I chose this location (out of Richmond, Vancouver – near Burrard and Broadway – and this one) because, since we have people spread all over Metro Vancouver, it was in its odd way, “mid-way from everybody”. And, no BigG, just like Ontario is NOT the centre of Canada, Richmond/Steveston is NOT the centre of Vancouver either! However, choosing this location had problems on its own. If you look at the sign above, would you be able to find it if you are driving at 40Km/H? Of course, giving another location as reference point helped but, still, some had problems finding it…

The really not descriptive entrance….
Another problem I encounter was during reservations. I called two days ahead asking for a table for 8 (the size of our party) and, other than the time (originally 7:00 p.m., it ended up being 6:30 p.m.), everything was OK. So we thought until we got there: there was another party (of 9) for the same time and they were given the only large table. As a result, we ended up seating in two separate tables for 4. Though side by side, it is NOT the same. Not happy here…
Anyway, as for the food… It is an all-you-can-eat sukiyaki place at $16/person. Not sure how to describe it best other than with pictures…

The initial pot – cabbage on broth over a stove.

Some additional ingredients for the pot.

And beef…. Lot’s of it! Each box had about 7 or 8 thin slices.

The pot with some veggies and tofu.

Now, with other green veggies and mushrooms.
OK, let’s try again. From a list, you order what you want. In the meantime, you turn on stove and let the broth boil. Once there, you start putting in the different ingredients (pork or beef, plus leafy veggies, mushrooms, tofu, some noodles, etc) and let them cook… Wait and… Eat! As for what you can order, despite it is a somewhat long list, I think it could be better, i.e., more “exotic” ingredients. But then again, at the current price…
In my table, I was the designated “cook” and I think I over-ordered. As a result, in the end, we were stuffed. Fortunately (or probably because there were no additional customers later that night), we were not hurried after the 2 hour limit, as we stayed for around 2:30 hours. Overall, it was fun; whether the $16 base price is worth it or not, well, it depends if you like this type of food (and/or if you don’t mind cooking it yourself). Would I return? Well, that’s a tricky question! Probably no, because it has fallen into the “been-there” category. Twice is enough!
(BTW, guys, if you read this, I am sorry I have not post-processed and sent you the pictures yet!)

did they at least comp you something for not putting you guys at one table?
Not really, after all, since it is an all-you-can-eat, it would have been impossible to comp something. However, now that you mention that, one thing did happen in the end: we were charge gratuity due to the size of our party, despite we were not seated together. Hmmmmmmmmm……. It is not that we wouldn’t have given tips, it is the fact it was automatically charged.
