Wang Ga Ma – Downtown

Wang Ga Ma (@ H-Mart)
590 Robson Street
Vancouver, BC

Following my trip to Matoi Sushi, I wanted to try the other food stands in the same area. So, a couple of nights later, I dropped by to try Wang Ga Ma…

There were several items I wanted to try; however, being on my own meant I could only go for one of them. Darn… Anyway, here is what I ordered:

Yup, that’s my order ticket. Unlike Matoi Sushi which seem to have taken forever, this one only took a couple of minutes.

Along with seafood pancake, there was also a broth (no pictures, sorry!). That broth was quite savoury! As for the pancake itself…

I will have to say it I was a bit disappointed with the dish. Now, don’t get me wrong; that might be due to my expectations. In this case, I was expected something on the lines of okonomiyaki; however, as seen in the picture above, I felt the batter was too oily and… doughy? As for the seafood, there were chunks of octopus, some shrimp and, on the top, what seemed to be krab. After finishing it (not really, did not manage to finish it), I came to realize my mistake: this dish might be better to share rather than trying to finish it yourself. Will I come back? Sure, but probably not for a seafood pancake…

I recommend the Spicy Beef Broth with noodles there. Very good and very spicy!
