A couple of weeks ago, I visited Vera’s Burger Shack and, to be fair, I thought I should visit the burger shop close/next to it, Fatburger. In other words, out of the two, which one is better?

I arrived slightly past noon and, although it was not packed for lunch rush, it was not empty either. If memory serves me right, there was a full table (6 customers) and a couple of another tables occupied. So, I went to the cashier/counter and made my order. Since I checked their menu outside before I walked in, I knew in advance what to order – more on that below. And, luckily, because everybody was seated on one side of the dining room, I was able to take this picture to give you an idea of the restaurant.

Now, the food: I ordered their Fatdeal combo (Just under $10): their original fatburger (with all toppings), fries and drink. I chose to add bacon (additional $1) and change the fries for onion rings (another additional $1).

Condiments on the table, not sure about the purpose of that “shake” condiment.
5 or so minutes later, I received my order. Yup, instead of being called from the counter (like Vera’s), it was delivered to my table.

While I understand you might want catsup with the fries, not sure about the onion rings…
Now, a close-up of the food.

The onion rings were OK, not totally seasoned but still tasty. And, yes, it was “rested” before it was served.

The burger itself was OK. Better than MickeyD’s but, the patty felt… lacking. I could taste the beef; however, it was dry and did not have any redeeming quality on its own. At least, they did not hold back on the toppings.
So, back to the original question, which one is better, Vera’s or Fatburger? Reality is, I would rather not answer that. In a way, it is something akin of choosing between a rock and a hard place…

I didn’t think Vera’s or Fatburger was any good. Now that you’ve eaten at these chain “gourmet” burger spots, give Burgers Etc. on Hastings & Gilmore a try. Christina has a link to a writeup on Burgers Etc. on our blog – just do a search for it.
Hi ET,
Agreed. I went to both Vera’s and Fatburger just because they are near where I work. Normally, I won’t have gone there.
Burgers Etc is on the queue and, funny enough, the data I visited them, they were closed! As for other burger joints worth noting, there is Burger Heaven in New West, which I have blogged previously.
Wow. You cover some serious real estate. Good job.
