Food for Thought for New Year…

Again, Happy New Year, everybody!

While I do have some posts in the queue, for a change, I want to post a commentary and, given the time of the year, it feels like a good time. So, what it is about? In a way, it is something personal but ought to share it, as I am sure others might have something similar in mind. It is about how things have changed ever since I started blogging…

Before I started, I could be considered an average eater. To a certain extent, I did not care where I would have my meal (probably with the exception of places like MickeyD’s, BK and similar places). In fact, I did not even think too much; if I like a place, I would keep going there again and again. Of course, writing (and reading!) about the same place over and over might be… Boring. As a result, I started going to different places. Now, I still have my local favourites, like Lao Shan Dong, which I go whenever I can’t decide.

At the same time, some odd things started to happen. I started to be more critical of the food I ate; in the past, I would just order something, hope for the best and eat it without thinking too much about it. Now, I am starting to take mental notes of the food and compare it with what I had in the past. In fact, I am starting to be afraid of being something I hate: somebody too critical of others. Could all this be my imagination? Most probably…

If this is indeed true, I hope I would be able to use it for good. After all, if the restaurants do not receive feedback, how can they improve? (That’s assuming they do bother to check blogs like this).

Eventhough I’ve only been blogging for a few months, I find that I’m trying to go to new places, and order new things. About your comment of being too critical of others, it’s not just you! I’m finding that I have to constantly put a list of both nice and not so nice comments, but finding the balance is the issue. I like reading your blog, so you’re keeping the balance just fine!
