Acacia Fillo Bar
Acacia Fillo Bar
1103 Denman Street
Vancouver, BC

Sometimes, the exterior of the shop could make or break the restaurant. If you can’t entice casual customers to walk in, or even help them find the restaurant, you might not necessarily be helping yourself. In my case, I have walked by Denman Street countless amount of times and I did not realize Acacia Fillo Bar was there if not by a post by Degan of Vancouver Ethnic Eats.

Every time I walked by, I thought it was part of either Delaney’s or Fatburger!
It was one of those odd sunny days in Vancouver when I went there for lunch. I was tempted to sit outside but, since it was still a bit chilly, I chose not to. Still, the sunlight was hitting in so it was all good.

For the food, I went to that day’s special, lamb + greens in fillo with soup or salad and roasted potatoes and yams. It was just under $13.

If memory serves me right, the soup of the day was cream of tomatoes or lentil soup. Ah, I love legumes so I did not even had to think about it. Notice that liquid-like layer on the top? It is a dash of olive oil. This is the first time I have had such addition to my soup so I found it odd at first. After a couple of spoonfuls, I found the soup was good without it.

And here is the lamb fillo with the salad, roasted potatoes and roasted yam. The salad had a dash of balsamic vinegar which gave it an acidic twist – something always good in a salad. Both the potato and yam were nicely seasoned. It was not greasy at all and roasting them made them sweeter than the usual boiled/mashed/hash.

The fillo lamb “pie”, unfortunately, was the weakest part of the meal. Now, don’t get me wrong. It was good; just that the greens inside it did not help the game-y flavour of the lamb, as it weakened it a little bit.

Hmmmm…. Lamb….!
Overall, I am happy with this place. Although $13 for a lunch is not the cheapest lunch available, I must say they have cheaper options, like one of their specialties called banitza. Would I come back? Certainly I will!
