A Side Effect of (Food) Blogging…

by KimHo on March 15, 2009 under: Comments,Random

I don’t consider myself an active person. Sure, I hit the gym three times a week, I walk around (now that I work in Downtown Vancouver, I take transit rather than drive there) but, if given the option, I think I would take a nap, or just being lazy. Just before I started food blogging, I was able to keep my weight in check; not necessarily an easy task considering I have a big appetite. However, I have noticed that in the last three months, I have gained at least 3.0 kilograms (the half kilogram is dependant of the time of the day; i.e., before or after meals, hehehe)!

Can I blame food blogging? Of course I can! Can I blame the fact I have been travelling a lot in the last several months – which usually means over a week without exercise? (Most noticeable ones: Toronto/Hamilton, one to Philly and two to Baltimore) Sure, again I can! However, in the end, I think I must blame myself. Everytime I have been to a restaurant, I end up cleaning my plate; something not necessarily the best way to eat.

I am due with my trainer so I will check what can be done about this. Would I eat less/exercise more to manage this situation? We will see… ^_^ So, to my fellow bloggers, how much does your eating habits have change since you started blogging? To (food) blog readers, have you visited more restaurants based on blog posts? And, if so, what have been the secondary effects?

Blog lurking has given me more insight on the restaurants reviewed and has broadened my choices when choosing to dine out. If it weren’t for you bloggers or dinehere.ca id be completely blind or would have to rely on just word of mouth. i enjoy reading your blog and as well as others out there so keep doing what you’re doing!
unfortunately for me, my high metabolism doesn’t like to cooperate with me =P. i fail to gain weight through eating and as much as i would like to(i feel im a bit too slender for my liking), it just doesn’t work for me. other than that, the only other side effects are probably indigestion or the rare food poisoning! Haha!

Johnners, welcome! Thanks a lot for your comments. I myself and I am sure all bloggers appreciate them!

Although I ate out a lot before blogging, I think I have eaten out a bit more. It’s like an addiction! I think I might have gained a bit of weight, but not too much. I still play my hockey 3 times a week and I try to not eat too many fried things. I’m sure the salt in my diet will not be good. I guess I may need to go to the doctor for a checkup. I’m not looking forward to that. I enjoy reading other bloggers too since there is absolutely no way in knowing about all the great places to eat here in the GVRD. So many gems!

Blogging has given me the motivation to choose new places when dining out, and seem to order more variety of items. Very useful when dining out with more people, as you can then find out what everything tastes like without having to order it all.

How much does your eating habits have change since you started blogging?
- I’ve lost around 70 pounds, so the change has been major in my life. I’ve taken up blogging as a food passionate person, and while I enjoy all of my home-cooked goodies, I’m lucky to have friends and family that drop what they are doing to indulge. And really, I can almost guarantee that I’ll be left with the healthier options as the treats are snapped up like wild fire.

To (food) blog readers, have you visited more restaurants based on blog posts? And, if so, what have been the secondary effects?
- I use food blogs for a two main reasons;
Education – from the bloggers personal experience, back story, food knowledge and restaurant information.
Enjoyment – Like baking, I appreciated the work, time and food people get to discover. Almost like watching No Reservations on a daily basis, but being lucky enough to communicate with the host.

As always, Cheers to your commitment!

I am now fat. It sucks, I looked at my belly today and I am embarrased. I do blame food blogging, and I blame the winter, it has not let me get outside for exercise and I also blame beer.

Over here, I don’t know if it’s the blogging or just aging. =) But, I don’t want to change my eating habits specifically (ie, “diet”). So I’m hoping that exercise will solve the problem. Although, being lazy doesn’t help. Hehe.
