As mentioned in my Menya post, I seldom go to some areas of Vancouver. The restaurant of today’s post is located in Main Street, where, although have good restaurants of it’s own – for example, Rekados, I don’t usually end up there for a lot of reasons (parking, driving, etc. etc.). However, the day I went to VanDusen Botanical Garden and Queen Elizabeth Park, post here, I was nearby and the rest is history, hehehe.

Earlier this year, I wrote about Stepho’s Greek Taverna and, to those who are not familiar with this place, is one of the best known Greek restaurants in Vancouver, to the point people queue outside for plate of Greek food. Given such popularity, one might ask how good would another nearby Greek restaurant be. Takis Taverna is such place, which is a couple of doors down from Stepho’s and, similar to Stepho’s, it has been there for ages.

After tasting those wings from Phnom Penh, I wanted to have a similar experience and wondered: Is there any other restaurant that is Phnom Penh’s competition when it comes to wings? That brought me memories of a small stand in Aberdeen Centre in Richmond (and thanks to our friends from Eat, Snap, Repeat). Would it be a match? Whose chicken wings will reign supreme???

(And, no, despite their odd name, they don’t serve dessert!)

In a burger chain ad, a couple is eating there and, while she is having a salad, he is having a burger and calls himself a “meatatarian” (“It is a personal choice!”). I don’t think I would go to that extreme; in fact, I won’t go to either extreme. But, once in a while, having a completely vegetarian meal is not a bad thing. But how about a completely raw meal? That is the premise of Gorilla Food.

I have to admit something. If you take a look at all the restaurants I have visited so far, you will notice that I do not visit Chinese restaurants that often. There are several reasons behind it, the not-so-obvious one is that “mom’s cooking is better”. The other one is that, for good Chinese food, it has to be served family style. Sure, there are HK style cafe or similar restaurants but, at the end of the day, the ones more representative of Chinese cuisine are those family style. Even Dim Sum, you enjoy it more if you go in a group rather than on your own. So, when I check with LC and his family for dinner, that gave me an excuse to blog about such type of restaurants. And, as usual, I let my guests choose…

We are already in spring and here is my photo essay of VanDusen Botanical Garden and Queen Elizabeth Park. My reason, aside from the obvious spring pictures, is that of cherry blossoms! Before I continue, I must mention I have taken pictures of these two places before. Here and here for VanDusen during the Festival Of Lights and here for a winter day/New Year in Queen Elizabeth Park. So, without further ado…

Phnom Penh… I am not sure what else I can add about this place. Visited (and “approved”) by Anthony Bourdain, considered on the best restaurants in Vancouver, given thumbs up by almost all bloggers here, is there something else I could add? The only way to find out would be visiting it, right?

Anthony Bourdain approves!
