Burger, burgers, burgers. I think I have visited one too many in the last couple of months, including re-visits to Red Robin. Would a visit to yet-another burger shop kill me? Hehehehe. So, for today’s post, another burger shop in the form of Urban Burger, located in Davie Village.

Burger-wise, the competition nearby includes Vera’s Burger, Triple O’s, Hamburger’s Mary further down Davie Street and an assortments of donair shops. And, yes, your usual MickeyD’s. The question is, with so much competition, how would a simple menu work? What? Simple menu? Yes, Urban Burger has only three burgers: Beef, Chicken and Veggie. And, your usual assortment of sides and toppings and drinks. In other words, does simplicity work in this case?

Given such a simple menu, the decision making process was simple as well. I ordered a burger with a side of fries and drink. I could have gone with a milk-shake but I would rather had just a pop/soda. In this case, a beef burger with extra mushrooms:

Notice something “interesting” on the bun? No, not my copyright notice! Instead, when it is toasted/grilled, they stamped their logo. Interesting gimmick. The fries does not look like your usual frozen fries. Instead, they are hand cut (or, at least that’s what it is being claimed). If that is indeed the case, there is one caveat: that one that the fires were a bit too short and, as a result, slightly messy.

As for the burger itself, the toppings/condiments were adequate. However, the patty was a bit too well-done to the point the edges were slightly crispy. Yes, it was dry. The mushroom did help, just that I can’t help myself think what about those who did not order with it… Still, it was tasty, so it is all good. Overall, despite the way the meat was cooked, it was interesting in its own way, especially if we consider my opinion of Vera’s Burger Shack. Would I come back? Depends. If I am in the area and interested in burgers, I only have that many options, so it would be a good one. Otherwise, if I am happy to drive, there are better options. Burger Heaven, anyone?

Stubby fries :( The burger does look thin when comparing the right side in the last picture with the tomato slice…I have no problem with thin patties, but it definitely means very little time on the grill. Extra mushrooms!!!!

That stamp on the bun is an interesting idea. Kind of a neat way of advertising/sticking in your head.

Pearl, ILFB, technically, they are not reviews, as it was a one visit. I would need to drop by several times before I can call it that way! ^_^;;;

I was in the area last weekend; however, chose to go to another place nearby instead (guess which, hehehehe).

Found your post on urbanspoon after I posted mine. I stumbled upon the place today but my experience was more positive. Maybe because I was the only one there.

I am wondering, how much was your combo (if you still remember)?

KimHo May 26, 2010 at 7:13 pm

J, it was over a year ago and if memory serves me right it was just under $10. Yes, I am aware they have a special combo now, as you mentioned in your post: $6!
