An afternoon in Lonsdale Quay

While most of the most populated areas of Metro Vancouver, namely Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and part of Surrey, has a fast transit system – and soon, Richmond will have one as well with the Canada Line, for North Vancouver and West Vancouver, well, there is not much for them. Sure, there are buses going there but the most popular way to cross the Burrard Inlet is not taking a bus. Rather, taking the Seabus. And what is at the other end? Lonsdale Quay.

To the right, the Seabus, in the back, Downtown Vancouver.

In the Vancouver side, the station is Waterfront. In the picture above, the ticker of when the next Seabus arrives. During weekdays, it is every 15 minutes; on weekends, every 30 minutes.

Crossing the Burrard Inlet. The Q to the right is Lonsdale Quay.

And in Lonsdale Quay, is Lonsdale Quay Market.

Shops and services. Interested in some pots? You got it. Cards or children toys? You got it as well. Or how about a massage?

And, if you are in a market, you ought to be able to buy groceries, right?

Meat shops, anybody?

Yes, including seafood! In the pictures above, halibut and spot prawn (which is/was in season).

Or how about some baked goods! Since they looked good, I ended up buying an empanada, the Spanish version of a turnover, from El Dorado Pie and Treats to take home:

Just like any good market, you would expect a food court, right?

Since I hadn’t had lunch yet, I decided to get some. To start, a seafood chowder from The Soup Meister. However, that ended up just being the starter…

This is Screaming Mimi’s, a seafood shop at the entrance of the market. What type of goodies?

How about some fried fish head and seafood rolls? (Not picture, clams and mussels by the pound, as well as shucked oysters).

Or baked and/or fried oysters? Yes, I end up getting some!

As well as a seafood bun! Lots of food but when you are given all these options… ^_^;;;

Wow, Kim Ho. This brings back a lot of memories! The last time we went on the SeaBus to Lonsdale Quay was almost 8 years ago when we were living in North Van. The SeaBus is still the cheapest “harbour cruise” and I always recommend this to visitors to Vancouver.

The last couple of times I was in Vancouver I did this exact trip. Just something touristy to do I guess. You know, start in the morning with a aquabus ride to the island and then in the afternoon a seabus ride to the Q. Your pictures are awesome and bring back some great memories!

I love Lonsdale Quay. Viv and I used to just come here and hang out. Get some soup, maybe something from the food court. It’s definitely touristy, but really nice on a sunny day. Some really good restaurants in that surrounding area too!

Ben, you should do this again! And it seems there are good eats on the area nearby Lonsdale so…

Raidar, not sure if call it touristy. Sure, if you live in North Van, it is part of daily commute but for people like me who seldom goes that way, it can be fun!

Sherman, oh, c’mon, the bowl of soup for $5 and loose change, the oyster for $3 and so on. I won’t necessarily call it touristy. As mentioned, it can be fun!
