Have I gone to burgers shops one too many? I think so. However, when people keep suggesting I should visit some places, who am I to say no? After all, I must make these comparisons, right? Well, so for today’s post, as per I Love Food Blog’s suggestion, I went to Splitz Grill.

I think it was empty because I was there somewhat late…

I am not sure if I should have expected something different in their ordering process. I mean, why make it complicated? At the counter, tell what type of burger you want, what toppings, sauces/condiments, any other additional toppings and you are good to go. What I messed up is that here, there is a Subway-like process, i.e., after you make your order, you go through a line and order your (free) toppings – of course, the other additional toppings ought to be ordered in advance as they would cost extra.

But, once you finish with your order, just wait for your patty to cook. And, when I sat at my table, I took my usual condiments-on-the-table picture! ^_^;;;

Napkins on the table; it is always a good thing if you expect things to be messy…

As for my order, I did not for anything fancy but just a regular lamb burger with a side of fries and pop/soda. What I completely forgot to add was the mushroom. Doh! So first, the fries.

They were average at most, not much to comment about. The cut, well, they are a bit short which made it difficult to eat once you go past half that container.

As mentioned above, no mushroom; however, I asked for all the (free) toppings. I must admit I was a bit tired that day so I did not memorize all the toppings they added. But, if you look at the picture above, the one that stands out, in the sense it is not something you would usually find, is the cucumber. It indeed give it a different, fresh twist.

The other “interesting” topping was the sprouts, not something you would usually see. However, unlike the cucumbers, it did not add much to the overall burger. As for sauces, I asked for Dijon mustard… And, I will admit this is the first time I found out Dijon was more of a liability than an asset. It completely overpowered the taste of the other components. Either that or they added a bit too much. But, regardless, I could not taste any of the game-y taste of the lamb. As for the patty itself, it was “juicy”, in the sense some of the juices leaked out of the burger; however, the patty itself felt slightly dry.

Overall, the concept of how the burger was built was good. Unfortunately, this fall into the category of ordering the wrong combination. I think I would give it a try again but, if I have to put it into perspective, it is far from being the best (that would still go to Burger Heaven)

    Yes, I’ve been wanting to go to Splitz, but I get sidetracked everytime. Hmmm… seems like it’s a bit average. I do agree that Burger Heaven is good though!

    Cool that you checked it out after reading my comment!

    I’ve actually heard that their location in Whistler is a lot better!

    I’ll definitely provide a review after I try this place out.

    Sherman, depends on what you call “average”, hehehehe.

    ILFB, well, suggestions are always open!

    Raidar, yeah, the fact I did not ask for mushroom was a memory lapse…

    Pearl, hilarious, eh? ^_^

    I’ve tried this place and found the burger large for the price. But the fries were some potatoes swimming in oil. I have been told that the milk shakes are worth the high price. It’s still just ice cream and milk right. No gold flakes sprinkled on top? And I was told that the splitz splitz are the tops. OK? But no a BIG BUT! the best burger that I’ve tried in Canada has not matched the average burger in Australia. MMMMMMMmmmmmmm Australian burgers. Not just for breakfast anymore.

    aussie^3, welcome! Technically, yes, a milk shake would be ice cream plus milk; however, nowadays, specially in chain restaurants, the soft-serve mix can be used as well. But, I seldom have milk shakes as it is too heavy for me (did that once in Burgers Etc and… -_-). Gold leaves? That is just a gimmick. The human body can’t digest metallic gold so it leaves your body unaltered (if you know what I mean). As for the burger, unfortunately, I don’t have plans to fly to Australia anytime soon, so I can’t comment on that. However, if you could give us an idea of the burger shops you have been in Canada (preferably Vancouver), we can draw a line of what you consider “best”. (For comparison purposes, the best I had so far has been from Burger Heaven, while Save-on-Meats and Burger Burger are also in the radar).
