Long Table Series @ The Irish Heather
208 Carrall Street
Vancouver, BC

Here we go again! For the third time, we had a mini gathering at The Irish Heather for a Long Table Series. My previous visit was blogged here (I chose not to blog my second visit and deferred that visit to my other fellow bloggers) but given it is a decent meal for cheap, we chose to have another gathering, this time hoping to meet new, upcoming food bloggers. Unfortunately, due to other circumstances, including short notice, only that many food bloggers were able to attend. They were…
Anita of La Petite Foodie – Post is here!
Jessica of Yum-o-Rama
Mijune of Follow Me Foodie – Post is here!
Sherman of Sherman’s Food Adventures – Post is here!
But, still, with good food and even better company…!

Just to show how somewhat disorganized it was (which I should take blame, as I was organizing it), one person thought it started at 7:00 p.m. rather than 6:00 p.m.! However, he/she managed to arrive and we were there for the event.

The “long table” which this series is named after.

For this event the menu was Roast Duck Leg With Colcannon Potatoes, Mushroom And Foie Gras Jus served with R&B Cream Ale. Here are the pictures:

I won’t comment much about the cream ale as I was driving that night. Now, I know a lot of people would say one glass isn’t that big of a deal; however, given my low tolerance, I wasn’t going to take any chance. As a result, I asked for a glass of pop/soda in lieu of alcohol.
As for the duck, with this bird, I have high expectations. In this case, I was disappointed with its execution. The problem was the cooking method – the end result was something similar to confit but the skin lack crispiness. If you ever had Peking duck, you will know what I mean. Also, I found the meat not as tender as it could be but, again, it could be due to the cooking method. The sides were interesting for the most part. The mashed potato had some cabbage in it which added some crunchiness. It was also interesting that the mashed potato “soaked” the broth as we were eating it. Quite good, if you ask me, as it provided some interesting flavours that the mashed potato would not have been able to acquire during the “mashing” process. The mushroom was mostly button mushroom; there were others but they weren’t really that noticeable. And the foei gras, yes, there were some pieces, though, of course, it was far from being high quality one. But, then again, it was just $15.
During the meal, we were having some interesting conversations and the place, for the most part, provided a good setting. Unlike what was promised, we did not engage in conversations with the other people in the table; instead, we mostly kept it to ourselves. Had I been by myself, that would have happened. In the end, at $15 (from the original $12 months ago), it is a good deal, although compared to what I had on my first visit, I think it has started to slip. But, as I have mentioned a lot of times, the company made up for it. Would I come back? We will see!

Thanks for organizing Kim! Hey… I think we almost have the same comments! Again… We’re 2 different people right?
Sherman, as far as I know, we are two different people. The question is whether our readers believe that is the case! XD
I always thought you two are twin brothers.
Jonnek, I don’t know. May be we have a bipolar disorder. Let me ask the other me to see if that is the case!
