About…

Update: October 26th, 2008

Hi!

Welcome to my second iteration/effort to start a blog. To those who are visiting for the first time, yes, I used to have another blog but decided to re-start everything. To those who were redirected to this new blog, some questions you might have…

1) Why did you decide to scratch the previous blog and restart another one?

There are several reasons, though the main one might have been a lack of focus. See, I used it mostly as a space to express whatever was in my mind. However, as the months went through, I started to notice, out of all possible topics, the two main topics I enjoyed writing the most were food and photography related. (A possible third one is travel).

2) So, what happened to the previous entries?

Actually, I managed to migrate most of them! However, I have placed some posts as private that are no longer related to the food, travel or photography. I must also mention, as a result, some links will be broken. While I will be working on this, it is quite possible a couple of links will direct you to null land. If that’s the case, please, let me know to fix it!

3) Why not keep the previous one as is?

This one is complicated. However, it can be summarised to change of focus. And, as a result of this change, I thought changing domain name was a good idea as well.

4) What the hell with this blog name?!

It happens that’s my fundamental philosophy when it comes to food!

Now, putting all that aside, a bit about me…

I was borned in China but, when I was really young, my family moved to Panama, a small country in Latin America. Fast forward a couple of years later and I ended up in Vancouver, Canada. I am a Computer Science major but, for a living, my job is not related to that field. However, the knowledge and thinking methodology gained in that career, helps me a lot with my current job… (As a side-note, I must mention, the CompSci curriculum back then was quite different to the curriculum nowadays. It was more focused on mathematics than actual programming and design).

So why blog about food? While I don’t have any formal culinary education, I was brought up in a traditional Chinese family environment. That means two things: I was taught to appreciate food and willingness to try almost anything (it is said that Chinese people will “eat anything with four legs apart from table and chairs and anything that flies apart from airplanes”). Also, Vancouver is a multi-cultural city and blessed with a variety of restaurants. So, why not blog about it!

The change and sudden trackbacks from a new site threw me off for a minute, but soon figured out it was going back to the former Words of Wind site. :) Hope you enjoy the new direction in your blog!

Hey Kim - looking good and great name! Since it’s now more food focused, you don’t mind if I add you to our blogroll, do ya?

Hi KimHo, I am a regular fan of Chow Times and they linked to you as one of the recommended reads, so I had a look and I like it! I’ve only just started a blog, so compared to yours, mine has very few reviews.
Anyhow, I know how nice it is to have comments (for me anyway) so I just wanted to say that you’re found another pleased reader!

    Hello monchichi,

Welcome and thanks for you comments! (And, Ben and Suanne, thanks for linking me!).

Don’t worry, starting one, along with persistence, are the most important step. After all, this is the second iteration of my blog!

    Hello KimHo!

I just came across your page from a link from chowtimes as well, and I must say you are the very first chinese-panamanian I have met in Vancouver aside from my brother and I. Love your pictures and I’m looking forward to trying some of the restaurants in the downtown area mentioned here. Although I’ll like to find more latin american restaurants in vancouver as I’m really starting to miss the food in Panama…sancocho, arroz con pollo, ceviches…hmmmm

anyways I’m glad I found your blog it’s already bookmarked!

    Hi Melisa,

    Wow! And I was under the impression there weren’t that many Panamanians here. What are the odds! Given the scenario, suddenly, I feel the pressure to blog more on Latin American restaurants! ^_^;;;

    Hi KimHo,

I recently started to do some marketing and PR for Irashai Grill in Coal Harbour. I stumbled across a review you wrote on the restaurant and I want to invite you to an Open House we will be having on May 28 so you can retaste the food. Please email me if this is something you are interested in and I will email you an invite.

    Cheers!

    Danielle
