Once Sherman and I were back from Hamburgers in Sausalito, we took a detour to visit one of the places where FoodBuzz Food Bloggers Festival was taking place. However, while there was a bit of chaos, at least it wasn’t the gong show you would see in open public events like Eat Vancouver! Even then, we were only there to make a token appearance and we left short after. Why the hurry? Well, in a quid pro quo, I agreed to go with Sherman to a banh mi shop in, out of all places in San Francisco, in the Tenderloin area. Considering going to such places does no faze me, hey, why not! The place’s name? Saigon Sandwich Shop.

Hamburgers (Sausalito)

I have mentioned previously that, under normal conditions, I would do some due diligence and try to find out which restaurants I should visit prior to the trip. However, for this trip to San Francisco, such due diligence wasn’t really done; instead, I relied quite a bit on suggestions – with the usual suspects being other food bloggers who have been in that area. However, a very dear friend whom had recently been there also provided a suggestion outside of the main areas of San Francisco. Since I heed my friend suggestions, I saw no reason why I shouldn’t give it a try. And what place it was? Well, a burger shop which name is quite straightforward about what food they sell: Hamburgers! (<– Yes, that’s the name of the restaurant!)

Ah, San Fran, San Fran… After FoodBuzz Street Food Fare Welcome Reception, Sherman, JS/TS and Mijune, each one of us called it a night. However, since we didn’t necessarily planned to attend all FoodBuzz events for the morning, we decided to tag along for some other activities. In my case, Sherman and I agreed to meet for breakfast and go from there, which included looking for some good eats outside of the San Francisco area. But, that is jumping ahead so, for this post, breakfast.

Here is a bit of a curve ball: while the hotel did offer continental breakfast, how exciting that would have been as blogging material? I guess not much. So, we decided to look for nearby options and option #1 had a somewhat ridiculous queue… At 8:00 a.m.! How bad it was? Imagine a breakfast version of Stepho’s… 1 hour queue? For breakfast??? While walking around, Sherman mentioned Taylor Street Coffee Shop (TSCS) as an option. Sure, why not!

Under “normal” circumstances, the burgers I had in In-N-Out would have sufficed. OK, probably had I made the fries animal style as well and order a 3×3 (i.e. three beef patties). So, here is the reason why I didn’t: Given I was on vacation, why not make the most out of it? How? Well, how about another restaurant in the area? With so many options, though with the caveat of it being a touristy area, the obvious question was… Where? How about something San Francisco is known for? Namely sourdough bread? How about clam chowder? Or, how about clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl? Given that Chris went to the sit down area of Bistro Boudin and it was a bit of a let down, Sherman and I decided to go to the quick order area instead…

In Vancouver, one of the burger shops that I have said everybody should give it a try, despite (or probably because) it being a total dive is Burger Burger. It is cheap, it is simple, it is messy. What else do you want from a burger? Of course, this being Vancouver, a “fancier” simple burger version type restaurant had to open (despite this statement sounds like an oxymoron). This place is, of course, Nimby Burger, which, despite there will be naysayers, it is inspired in In-N-Out Burger, a well-known chain in the Western side of the US. This has been blogged by Sherman and Mijune; however, it is not the fact it has been blogged but rather the enthusiasm. With that in mind, I knew that on this trip to San Francisco, I had to visit one of such location.

Welcome San Francisco!

Last weekend, I participated in a food bloggers festival organized by Foodbuzz. I can’t deny that I certainly enjoyed having them as sponsors and participating in this festival was interesting in its own ways. I wanted to attend last year’s festival; however, due to work scheduling conflict (which resulted me in going to New Jersey), I couldn’t attend. It certainly didn’t help when Sherman “bragged” about it. *Shakes fist!!!* So, for this year, as soon as I received the email confirming the days of the event, I booked those days off. I won’t be denied this time! There were a lot of events and I ended up attending a couple of them; however, the ones that probably might entice more to people are the Street Food event, the topic of today’s post, and the dinner gala, which will be the topic of next week Sunday! Of course, I was there for the weekend and I can guarantee your there will be other posts, hehehehe. So, without further ado…!
