Breakfast

A lot of things happened on my trip to Miami/Miramar. As mentioned in a previous post, for the most part, it was good despite some wacky things happened/mentioned. For today’s post, a somewhat random mix of other places I went to eat which I could have put into individual posts. So, why not? It is just that I wasn’t sure if there was enough material (not to mention the quality of that material) so, as a result, I thought it would be better to have a single large post. Hope it works!

It is said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. How much? Some even say breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, sup like a pauper. In my case, I usually end up having a bowl of cereal with some fruit (either banana or some berries) and soy milk. Once in a while, some bread or a bagel with jam and a glass of soy milk. Not necessarily a king’s breakfast; however, it gets me there for lunch which, for me, is usually noon sharp… Last weekend, I had a very important appointment for 10:00 a.m. and, while I could have breakfast at home, I chose to have breakfast outside (I was driving anyway). However, I did not want to go to Denny’s or IHOP. I wanted something a bit out of the way, something like Bon’s Off Broadway.

Despite it was a short trip, after I came back from Richmond, VA, I still suffered the effects of jet lag. That meant waking up early and be hungry by 10:30 a.m. Fortunately, aside from meetings, my work does not force me to have lunch at a specific time of the day so I chose to have a really early “lunch”. The problem? Most places do not open before 11:00 a.m… But, I had a backup plan: A place that is open “20 hours a day”. That place is Hamburger Mary’s.

I will openly admit this: One thing I do not like about flying is the lag due to the time shift. When I went to Panama, oddly, I did not have any problems adjusting to the local time (Panama is -5GMT vs -8GMT but, due to daylight savings, right now the difference is +2 hours). However, on my flight back, I arrived in Vancouver at around 12:00 a.m., which gave me enough to take the cab home, sleep a couple of hours and go to work. That created a problem in the next couple of days (actually, daylight savings has been an almost “constant” problem): I was hungry way before noon. Usually, I just wait until something closer to noon but, alas, it was not an option this time…

Going for “lunch” before noon has issues of its own: a lot of places does not open until 12:00 m, so options are slightly limited. Two of these places is the topic of today’s post, Joe’s Grill and Teresa’s Cafe.

It was my last day in Jefferson City and had to drive to St. Louis to catch my flight back to Canada. Since I was not sure of how light/heavy the traffic would be, I chose to leave relatively early (as early as 6:00 a.m.). I could have had breakfast at the hotel (which was “free”); however, you get what you pay for. Well, it was not bad; it was not good either… Anyway, this post is not about the hotel’s “free” continental breakfast but Waffle House, as the name suggests, a restaurant where waffle is the supposedly the main item. Between Jefferson City and St. Louis I think I saw at least 4 locations. But, every time there was a sign telling me one was coming, I missed that exit (and I was driving on the rightmost lane the whole time!). Fortunately (?), when I was close to St. Louis, traffic was starting to get heavy and, well, finally took the correct exit, hehehehe.

Vancouver – St. Louis

And here I go again, hitting the road (or a plane, in this case). Where? St. Louis, Missouri! And, as usual, my post of the meals I had while leaving Vancouver to my destination city and back.

I had to connect in Denver, so this picture is somewhere in-between…

OK, I jumped the shark… Yes, in my desperation to find a place to blog about, I went to Denny’s! Nah, just kidding. Actually, I was looking for something to eat late night and the first place open I found was a Denny’s. Before I continue, I must say I have been to Denny’s before, just that I did not care too much about it.
