Nimby Burger
2210 Cornwall Avenue
Vancouver, BC

What? Another burger place post? Well, true, I wrote about Five Guys Burgers and Fries last week but, considering that the rest of the posts for this week would have ended up being that of Asian restaurants, I thought, nah, this might be “worth it”…
Now, Nimby Burger (as in… Not In My Back Yard?) has made some noise in the last couple of weeks, including what I believe is the best method of testing if the restaurant (as set up) works: serve their food free. I mean, why should I pay a restaurant if they are still tweaking things? Aside from that is the fact it imitates principles similar to that of a well known burger shop in the US, In-n-Out Burger. While I haven’t been to In-n-Out, at least I know how I like my burger. With that in mind, I went there the weekend after they opened.

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about my visit Huaxi Noodle in Crystal Mall. Being such a good eats place (or at least above average), I decided to visit yet another couple of stall in the same food court. Hey, not all food court are bad/below average! (Specially our concept of western food court).

To those who can only speak English, let me tell you: English is an odd language and can be twisted in really odd ways. From being a language where there are more exceptions than rules, to things times where spelling makes no sense (read vs read, in its present vs past tense), pronunciation isn’t straight forwards (tomato vs tomato) and where you can create words overnight, like malamanteau (and the hilarity it ensued afterwards). However, that does not mean I can’t use it in its own odd ways as well. A week or so ago, I wrote a tweet on the lines of (which I have deleted since):
“Getting messy with Five Guys”
Of course, I initially meant “Having a mess in Five Guys”, though, I knew that typing it differently would have raised a lot of eyebrows. But, then again, a lot of people don’t know/want to remember/are aware that “mess” can also refer to a meal, plus the fact that Five Guys was capitalized should have given a hint I was referring to something else, as in Five Guys Burgers and Fries. Of course, at times, being politically correct detracts from some jokes… Anyway, back to the restaurant and food theme, my visit to Five Guys Burgers and Fries…

Wally’s Burgers

Vancouver, BC

Last week, reader Ryan wrote a comment in my Wally’s Burger (Cates Park) post saying there was a new location in Killarney Market in the Victoria Drive/Fraserview area. While I wasn’t necessarily impressed in my visit to its North Vancouver location, I still had some willingness to give it a try but, of course, this time with lower expectations. (Of course, the fact I did not have to cross any bridge helps!).

If you checked my posts last week, I mentioned I visited a lot of Asian restaurants during that Christmas/New Year stretch. While i mentioned Honolulu (for HK Cafe food), there is also a Korean place (which will be blogged later). For the most part, that is all good; except that you want to break from that Asian fare and want something else. Sometimes even something mundane… Something like a burger. So, once again, I was driving around and ended up in the newest location of Fatburger in Metro Vancouver.

Score on Davie
1262 Davie Street
Vancouver, BC

There was I again on the look for good eats. Sure, there are still a lot of restaurants in the Robson and Denman area I haven’t visited yet but, for some other reasons, some of these places, well, I am not that interested in going. Milestone’s? Cactus Club? Bread Garden? The list is still somewhat long but time will tell…
For today’s post, it is about a burger place in Davie. While I had known of its existence, I haven’t visited it previously because… Well, there was no reason! It is just that I completely overlook it. Most likely because I do not walk to this area from English Bay; rather, I take one of the side streets from Robson street. However, I have sort of a reason why I ended up to Score: I was looking for Sushi Sky but it was closed. Why Sushi Sky. Ask Mijune! Anyway, not wanting to walk back and forth, I said to myself, oh, well, there is Score on Davie…

Roxy Burger
910 Granville Street
Vancouver, BC

Last week, I blogged about the Santa Claus Parade. Of course, being an event that occurs around noon means I would either eat before or after it. In this case, it was before. The question was… Where? While Granville Street is known as the Entertainment District, at noon, right now, it is almost a bare street. Sure, there are your pubs but it lacked that “ambiance” associated to this area. While doing a quick walk, I remembered a place I meant to go: Roxy Burger. Well, that resolves the dilemma!
