I have mentioned previously that a perk of food blogging is that you get to met new people. Whether he/she is a new blogger or somebody who has just started, or even readers – sometimes it is different from dining with people you have met previously. Of course, to get to have a good meeting, a small dinner is better than a larger one but I digress. Anyway, in this case, I got to meet Elaine (or, as I have been referring to as Elaine2 to avoid confusions with Elaine of Parker Pages), who writes O My Sweet Tooth!. And, given I am meeting another food blogger, that usual “discussion” is guaranteed to ensue: Where? When? Etc. etc. After some emails going back and forth, we decided to go to Japas Bistro.

Some people have considered me to be a bad influence. How so? Well, how about “convincing” them to start a blog??? That is in part what happened to RC. He had a domain parked for the longest and, after he found out I was food blogging, that was the spark needed for him to start using that domain – Yummy Review. And, while he has taken baby steps, that didn’t stop me from doing what a food blogger does best: check if he would be good to visit a restaurant! As usual, there was the question of where. To make thing “easy” for both of us, I chose a restaurant that would be somewhat equidistant for both. And that place ended up being Tony’s Beef Noodle.

A couple of weeks ago, I had an appointment near Cambie and Broadway and, for good or for bad, it was around 1:00 p.m. Good because that means I got to explore that area of town for lunch; bad because that means I will be somewhat lethargic for that appointment! Now, there are some interesting places but, given I was somewhat limited by time, it had to be something fast. Pizza Slice? No… McD’s or Timmy’s? C’mon, I won’t go out of the way to go there? How about poutine… Wait, didn’t I exceeded my poutine allowance after the poutine pizza from Brado? Well, that is true but, hey, there are times where there will be some sacrifices, hehehe. And what place it is? Zako’s Deli, who was suggested previously by my Quebeçois friend as his poutine place to go – that was, of course, before we went to La Belle Patate.

As I have mentioned previously, one of the perks from blogging in general is that of meeting people. And, in the particular case of food blogging, that of meeting people for a meal. That was the case when Erin (of My Life in the E List) wrote a comment and, finding she is a blogger, one thing lead to another and that meant us meeting for lunch. Of course, that brings the question of where. After checking her blog, I found out she likes sushi and that meant we would originally meet in Ebisu on Broadway. But, alas, it was closed on the day we were supposed to meet for lunch! So, that led us to plan B: Toyo Sushi.

It is said that when something bad happens, something good will. During the Olympics weeks, one afternoon, I decided to visit one of the houses/pavilions located outside of the major areas (Downtown Vancouver, Yaletown, Richmond O Zone, et al). That one place ended up being the Ukrainian House located near Cambie Street, not far from Vancouver City Hall. However, by some really odd twist of destiny, the one day I went was the one day they were closed. ARGGGGG!!! OK, I did check their site but, for some reason, it appeared as open that night but, the day after, I checked again and this time, it was listed as closed. >_<
Regardless, after this epic fail, I was walking back to the Skytrain station to go home when I saw Shiro. Based on the feedback of Sherman, I knew this was a place I should visit. And this night might be as good as any other night…

Another neglecting types type of restaurant for a long time, it was time I finally went to one. It was a noon I was doing some errands near the Cambie area and thought, hey, why not! After all, if this one was full, I could just go next door to Copa Cafe! Unfortunately, that was easier said that done, as there was almost no parking spaces in the next blocks. Fortunately, I spotted one and to Corner 23 it was…
