OK, I can see people thinking, WTH?! No restaurant post today, instead that of a McDonald’s?! Sky is falling!!!!
Nah, similar to why I wrote the McDonald’s s’mores pie post, I was with Mijune (of Follow Me Foodie, her post on this “dessert”, to be up soon!) in the Downtown area and knowing she loves sweets, I suggested we try this new concoction: the crème brûlée McFlurry. After all, what are the chances I will finish one of these? (Answer: none). But, here is the interesting detail to all this (something I found out afterwards): it seems this, along with the s’mores pie and some dipping sauces for the McNuggets (spicy Szechwan and zesty mango), they are part of the featured Winter Olympic Games menu. So, in a way, it is a Canada only item right now (or as far as I know)! So, without further ado, the Creme Brulee McFlurry.

OK, here is something I am not afraid of admiting: I used to like to eat breakfast sandwiches in McDonald’s. Specifically, I liked the folded egg with sausage in a biscuit (just in case – the American definition of biscuit). However, they phased that one in favour of the Egg McMuffin. Not that it is not good, I just preferred the other version. In a way, it was a good thing, as ever since, I stopped going and started to prepare breakfast myself. Enter Tim Hortons Breakfast Sandwich. For the most part, it was almost example the same as that breakfast sandwich I used to like; however, because I changed my diet, rather than jumping directly to have it every single day, I would have it once in a while, specially when I am in Vancouver International prior to a flight. Since comparing a discontinued product (or, at least, not available here, as far as I could see) is unfair, I thought it would be a good thing. That is… Until Tim Hortons released their new breakfast sandwich: instead of using a biscuit, it was made of an English muffin. So I couldn’t help it… The battle of Breakfast Sandwiches… (And borrowing that line from Iron Chef:) Whose cuisine reigns supreme?

I am no food stylists, nor I will try to make it look as good as shown in ads!

“You haven’t been to The Cheesecake Factory?!” That was the reaction of both Sherman and Mijune when I was asking them for options of eateries in the Washington. In the past I have chosen not to go to chains, unless it is a local/regional chain because, let’s face it, pretty much you can go there when options run out. However, there was some enthusiasm and a partial endorsement from both that I thought I should give it a try. So, here it goes!

If you checked my posts last week, I mentioned I visited a lot of Asian restaurants during that Christmas/New Year stretch. While i mentioned Honolulu (for HK Cafe food), there is also a Korean place (which will be blogged later). For the most part, that is all good; except that you want to break from that Asian fare and want something else. Sometimes even something mundane… Something like a burger. So, once again, I was driving around and ended up in the newest location of Fatburger in Metro Vancouver.

I am sure that some of you who visit this blog comes with the expectation of finding information about restaurants. With a similar line of thought, I do that “research” by visiting other fellow bloggers sites – just check my blogroll to the right for places I visit. While I am sure we will focus more often on recommended places or those where we have a positive feedback, there is also the negative one… How so? For some reason, Sherman (of Sherman’s Food Adventures) kept telling me “Don’t go to ABC or Knight and Day” and instead of me avoiding it completely, it was like that proverbial moth to a flame… Yup, it means I went to Knight and Day!

OK, this is a totally random post: As you should have noticed already, I have created a Twitter account and, well, for good or for bad, have been “following” other fellow food bloggers. Yesterday, Mijune (of Follow Me Foodie) wrote this tweet:
Whoa! NEW S’mores Pie 2 for $1.39 at…McDonald’s!! I haven’t tried it yet, anyone else try it?
Later, Sherman (of Sherman’s Food Adventures) “replies”
@followmefoodie It looked scary to me… I didn’t try it. You go ahead and tell me about it! LOL…
Now, I am making an assumption here that Sherman was replying to Mijune’s tweet above, as there were other in-between tweets, including this one:
Did u do my apple pie trick? Tell them to make u an apple pie McFlurry…vanilla ice cream & ask to blend ur apple pie in it
@kathygko
If my assumptions are correct, then, the only thing I can say is… C’mon, people, I can’t believe you won’t give it a try!
Since I was near a MickeyD’s, I thought “hey, let’s give it a try!”. So, here it is, MickeyD’s S’mores Pie!

I am not a fan of malls. While I do go there for other reasons, if given the options, I would rather be somewhere else. However, when you are not in a major city, sometimes you can’t help it, specially when you are not from town. Also, a lot of restaurants would choose them as a spot to open. It might be a gamble for independent ones; not necessarily so for chains which has a corporate backing behind it. The major mall in the area happens to be Bridgewater Commons and one night I chose to drop by. Food court? Check; however, I went somewhere else instead. While there was other sit down restaurants there as well, I couldn’t find them (it happened they were partially “detached” from the main mall). Hungry, I ended up going to the one I was able to find: McCormick and Schmick’s Seafood
