OK, this is a totally random post: As you should have noticed already, I have created a Twitter account and, well, for good or for bad, have been “following” other fellow food bloggers. Yesterday, Mijune (of Follow Me Foodie) wrote this tweet:
Whoa! NEW S’mores Pie 2 for $1.39 at…McDonald’s!! I haven’t tried it yet, anyone else try it?
Later, Sherman (of Sherman’s Food Adventures) “replies”
@followmefoodie It looked scary to me… I didn’t try it. You go ahead and tell me about it! LOL…
Now, I am making an assumption here that Sherman was replying to Mijune’s tweet above, as there were other in-between tweets, including this one:
Did u do my apple pie trick? Tell them to make u an apple pie McFlurry…vanilla ice cream & ask to blend ur apple pie in it
@kathygko
If my assumptions are correct, then, the only thing I can say is… C’mon, people, I can’t believe you won’t give it a try!
Since I was near a MickeyD’s, I thought “hey, let’s give it a try!”. So, here it is, MickeyD’s S’mores Pie!

I am not a fan of malls. While I do go there for other reasons, if given the options, I would rather be somewhere else. However, when you are not in a major city, sometimes you can’t help it, specially when you are not from town. Also, a lot of restaurants would choose them as a spot to open. It might be a gamble for independent ones; not necessarily so for chains which has a corporate backing behind it. The major mall in the area happens to be Bridgewater Commons and one night I chose to drop by. Food court? Check; however, I went somewhere else instead. While there was other sit down restaurants there as well, I couldn’t find them (it happened they were partially “detached” from the main mall). Hungry, I ended up going to the one I was able to find: McCormick and Schmick’s Seafood

When I was in Panama, if you wanted burgers, the only options were fast food chains (we had the usual MickeyD’s, BK and Wendy’s, with brief stints from Hardee’s and other shops). After I moved to Canada, I became a bit more conscious of the fact there were more shops in addition to the ones found there. I mean, why should I? Back in Panama, while they filled a niche, there were better food (in either mom-n-pop shops or street vendors, et al). So, when I saw there was a movie called “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle”, my first thought was “White Castle? What is that?”. Of course, I found out eventually but, alas, my curiosity to find out what was actually served in White Castle couldn’t be satiated…

On my flights, I usually sleep. No, really! While sometimes there are good movies, under the influence of Gravol/Dramamine, forget about it. This time, even the fact the movies were food related did not help! Among the movies available were Julie & Julia, Babettes Gæstebud (aka, Babette’s Feast) and, if memory serves me right, Big Night. Heck, just for kicks, I grabbed my copy of the On-Board magazine as it feature some food related topics, like restaurants in Vancouver (a brief look at it focused mostly on fine dining. Sigh…). On an unrelated note, I was flying Air Canada and, despite all the crap said about it, for a North American airline, it isn’t that bad, specially considering the issues I had flying with US Airways, including me being in a watchlist…
But, back to the topic, after getting myself terribly lost near Newark, I eventually hit the highways and arrived to the hotel… At 9:00 p.m… Hungry at that point, as I just had breakfast and skipped all the in-flight snacks and meals (I was testing a theory, that if you arrive hungry and tired you might as well eat something and hit bed to more easily overcome jet lag, in this case, I will have to say it worked!), I went at the closest place available: Ruby Tuesday

A couple of weeks ago, I described a lunch with two former colleagues in the Burrard and Pender’s location of Joey’s and added about we might be going to Cactus Club Cafe which just happened to be across the street from Joey’s. We did end up going there for a meeting; however, it was for after hours rather than for lunch. Is it “sooooo goooood” as my friends claim it to be? What about Rob Feenie’s recipes? I was about to find out, I guess…

A couple of months ago, I wrote a post on Joey’s Burrard and Robson location (you can check it here). In it, I said you can safely guess if I will NOT be back (unless dragged by my friends)!. Guess what? I was “dragged” there by some friends! (When your friends says their food is “soooooo gooooood” ad nauseum…). However, thisime, it was not the same location but the Burrard and Pender location.

After coming back from weeks of travelling, a friend agreed to meet for lunch, as he had some questions for me and some issues where my “personal expertise” was really useful. Well, that sounds good, specially considering that, after weeks of travelling, cooking was nowhere in the priority totem pole. I let him choose the place and we ended up going to Burrard and Robson location (in Vancouver) of Joey’s Grill and Lounge.
