First of all, Happy New Year everybody!
During this last holidays, I decided to do something “unusual”: Rather than staying in town, I decided to go down to the US. Why??? Why not! Considering that a lot of places were closed or people flooding to the malls, I just wanted out. So, for that purpose, I checked with my friend “Stimulant Junkie”. OK, OK. Normally, I would go down to the US by myself; however, in this case, I had an agenda of my own and Stimulant Junkie was more than a “willing” volunteer. And what was that agenda? Visit Din Tain Fung, a well know restaurant from Taiwan which specializes in xiao long bao, aka, XLB. Given all the hype that restaurant have had, there were several questions in my head, and the only way to answer them would have been to visit it!

“Anybody interested in some XLB?” That was what Sherman wrote in an email. I am not sure but, there are times where I wonder if that question should be asked anymore… Well, actually, this was, as I was in “maybe” mode. Why? Me, don’t want to tag along for food? Well, it just happens the day Sherman suggested we went for xiao long bao was the day I went with TNG to Squamish! In the end, we chose to come back to Vancouver and, for TNG to meet fellow food bloggers in action, in this case, in addition to Sherman, there were also Elaine, Matt and Degan. The place for XLB? A small mom-n-pop, hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Main Street called City Temple of Shanghai.

Last year, Karl (of The Friday Lunch) commented in Thai Son (on Broadaway) post that his favourite Vietnamese restaurant was Green Bamboo. Coming from a fellow blogger, I would, of course, check their suggestions. Well, since I was in Metrotown, crossing the road to get to Crystal Mall shouldn’t be that much of an issue, right?
