Like any good Chinese-born and raised, my favourite type of meat is pork. In a way, it is a part of us! However, I haven’t had as much as I wished lately, so I knew I had to cook some myself… Now, I wanted to try something “different”, in this case, with Korean BBQ sauce…

OK, it says “beef” but that should not prevent me from trying it with pork, right?

Hmmm….. Pork…. ^_^

I put them into a zip-lock bag and about a cup or so of the BBQ sauce. I let them “marinate” in the fridge just before I went to work. When I got back from work, I took them out of the fridge and let them rest until they were back to room temperature. And, of course, I had to prep the (portable) grill so I fired it up for it to pre-heat. In the meantime, for side dishes…

I put some red peppers on the grill.

For another side dish, I had a yam. Yup, that’s a big yam!

I cubed it and put it into a steam mesh. They went to a pot with boiling water to steam (for 12 or so minutes until soft). By then, the red peppers were “good” already, so I took them out, into a bowl, covered with plastic wrap. I would “clean” them up when it had cooled a little bit.

And, of course, once the red peppers were out of the grill, I can put the pork on… Hmmmm… Pork!!!

By now, the yam were soft so I pour out the water and return the cubed yam pieces into the pot. Some butter and I started to mash them… Yes, mashed yam rather than mashed potato!

OK, I did not have a masher so I had to improvise. Since it was soft enough, I could have used almost any tool to mash them!

Around 25 or so minutes in the grill, I took the pork out of the grill and let them rest.

Finally…

Yeah, I also sautéed mushrooms… OK, just in case, the plate is smaller than what it looks like… ^_^;;;

So, how was it? The mushroom and red peppers were as expected. The mashed yam… Well, think of a silkier version of mashed potatoes, yet at the same time with some chunks. I think I could have skipped the butter but, otherwise, it was better than expected! (Yes, that means it was my first time doing mashed yam!). As for the pork… It was good; however, not thanks to the BBQ sauce. Probably because I was marinating a big chunk of meat rather than slices prevent it from “absorbing” the marinade. Had I not used the BBQ sauce, most probably would have prepared a mix of honey/maple syrup with mustard. Oh, well, I guess I can use it next time.

Yes, it satisfied my pork cravings, to the point I had enough for a couple more meals. Well, for now, huahahahahaha! ^_^
