Octopus’ Garden
1995 Cornwall Ave
Vancouver, BC

Confession time: This post wasn’t supposed to happen. In fact, due to timing, my last post was supposed to be that of the Vancouver’s 1st Foodie Festival and then hang my camera and keyboard. However, in some sort of unfinished business type feeling, I knew I had to visit some places – one of them was Octopus’ Garden which is the topic of this post. Under normal conditions, I might have gone regardless but chosen not to blog. However, I was with good company and, despite knowing my intentions of stop blogging, gave me one final push and suggested I should blog it. So, as one of my last post, I might as well go out with a bang!

Romer’s Burger Bar
1873 W 4th Ave
Vancouver, BC

When I wrote my post on Delux Burger Bar (located in Edmonton), at the very end, I added a note about a place I had visited in Vancouver but, for other reasons, I didn’t write about it yet and required a revisit. As you can guess by now, that place was Romer’s Burger Bar. While I already had an idea about it prior to visiting Delux, would my additional knowledge/experience would make this a better or more complete post? Or by revisiting after Delux would provide a better perspective? Keep on reading to find out!

Nimby Burger
2210 Cornwall Avenue
Vancouver, BC

What? Another burger place post? Well, true, I wrote about Five Guys Burgers and Fries last week but, considering that the rest of the posts for this week would have ended up being that of Asian restaurants, I thought, nah, this might be “worth it”…
Now, Nimby Burger (as in… Not In My Back Yard?) has made some noise in the last couple of weeks, including what I believe is the best method of testing if the restaurant (as set up) works: serve their food free. I mean, why should I pay a restaurant if they are still tweaking things? Aside from that is the fact it imitates principles similar to that of a well known burger shop in the US, In-n-Out Burger. While I haven’t been to In-n-Out, at least I know how I like my burger. With that in mind, I went there the weekend after they opened.

Bistrot Bistro
1961 W 4th Ave
Vancouver, BC

I will be straight to the point, this post was scheduled on purpose for Good Friday… Read the why further down below!
Darina has mentioned a couple of times one of her favourite restaurants is Bistrot Bistro. With that in mind, Sherman (his posts of this visit here) had an interesting plan for it. Along with Mijune and myself, we went there with somewhat high expectations. The question was whether it would deliver – that is specially considering the last time we dine out together at La Brasserie, things went a bit sideways.

Sweet Obsession Cakes & Pastries
2611 W 16th Ave
Vancouver, BC

After our meal at The Irish Heather as part of its Long Table Series (as blogged here), we decided to look for a place for dessert. Unfortunately (?), Jessica, Mark, Sherman and Viv had other previous engagements so that left Mijune, Anita and me. We could have had dessert and The Irish Heather but, let’s face it, we had an excuse to visit somewhere! At first, we were thinking on different places in Downtown/West End but, after some back and forth thoughts, we decided to go to Thomas Haas in Kits. However, when we arrived, we found out it was closing so that left us again with that eternal question… In the spur of the moment, I remembered the first time I met Mijune, where we were in West Side and ended up going to Trafalgar’s Bistro. So, how about Sweet Obsession which happens to be right next to it? Everybody agreed so to Sweet Obsession it was!

Fuel Restaurant
1944 W 4th Ave
Vancouver, BC

Originally, I had a post of my New Jersey/New York trip scheduled; however, will make a small interruption and put this one instead. The reason is simple: I visited Fuel just before they closed and, similar to Gastropub/Maenam next to it, will be rebranded as Refuel. Since, for the most part, the feedback has been positive, this would be my last chance, so why not!
(Silly note: Since the restaurant is now closed, I have adapted this post to be in past tense, which results in some parts to be oddly written…)
