OK, after a small break from Asian, with yesterday post of FatBurger, I am back with Asian again! ^_^;;; Fortunately (?), rather than sticking with only one area/country/region, I have been jumping back and forth. This time, I went for Korean. And, the most interesting part? Rather than a place in Downtown Vancouver or Kingsway, I went to an area of Vancouver I have started to expand: Lougheed, the border between Burnaby and Coquitlam. While Insandong is the most popular one, I dropped by Ddoo Gau Bee instead.

Nor Boo Korean Restaurant
1536 Robson Street
Vancouver, BC

To a certain extent, despite there are so many Korean restaurants near my workplace, I seldom go to these. It is not that I do not like them; however, for some reason, I feel that it is “better” to go with somebody else or in a small group. However, that does not mean I haven’t to one myself – check my post on Ma Dang Coul. So, when I checked a colleague to go for lunch, I suggested Nor Boo Restaurant, one of those nearby places I haven’t been. In a funny way, others joined us…

Red Chicken Korean Restaurant

[Editor's note: This is a "bonus" post of sorts, as it was originally scheduled to go live on Monday - See the "other" post below or the "previous" post. However, since this coming Monday is Labour Day...!]
In a way, this post was and wasn’t overdue at the same time. See, a couple of months ago, I went there with a friend and tried their food. I was almost ready to post it when Wilson from La Petite Vancouver wrote a post. Why did I hold back? Well, according to my friend, the name of the restaurant is due to a dish – buldak: Chicken wings and legs marinated in a very hot spicy chili sauce grilled which happens to be of reddish colour. Since Wilson wrote about it – buldak included, I thought my post would fall short without it (not to mention the pictures in my original visit were a bit… below average). So, it was a matter of when I would re-visiting them and have some buldak. And I did recently…

Yakko Sushi

Last month, when I wrote about Momo Sushi House, a sushi shop near my workplace, Wilson of La Petite Vancouver, mentioned Yakko Sushi in Burnaby. But, wait, didn’t I visited that previously (check here)? Well, yes; however, as mentioned in my follow-up comment, there are two Yakko Sushi, the “Express”, which I blogged and the topic of today’s post, Yakko Sushi.

Oyama Sushi
5152 Kingsway
Burnaby, BC

(In Urbanspoon, it appears as Sushi Oyama. For consistency purposes, I will use Oyama Sushi).
If you are in Metro Vancouver and you feel like driving along Kingsway (depending on your final destination, not necessarily the best route), you can find almost about anything. Malls (Metropolis at Metrotown, anybody?), hospitals (Mount Saint Joseph Hospital), a park (Central Park), etc. etc. If you drive eastbound, once past Nelson Street, there is one building that would certainly catch your attention: the Glenedward. While most people won’t know it by name (I myself I have to search for it!), everybody knows about that house with granite fences surrounded by more modern condominiums (as a result of urban development). Nowadays, it is a restaurant, and the topic of today’s post, Oyama Sushi (the previous tenant also opened a restaurant). Some time ago, however, it was not something that would combine with food very well: it used to be a funerary home… Anyway, this post is not about funerary homes but food (assuming you still have the stomach to keep on reading!).

Burger Burger

All the well known restaurants are, well, well-known. So, how do we usually find those hidden, mom-n-pop shops, shady places? Aside from walking/driving around, other bloggers, of course! In the case of Burger Burger, is a place I have known of previously but I haven’t had the chance to try because of the location and time – mainly time, as it closes by 7:00 p.m. However, when fellow bloggers like Kevin from 604foodtography and Sherman of Sherman’s Food Adventures wrote about it (see here, here and here), I need I had to do what was necessary to go there. And here is my post!

Ah, gathering with former colleagues… That is always an interesting process. Everybody working in different places, different schedules, different likes/dislikes, etc. And, in a process similar to that of how we ended up in Posh a couple of months ago, I “chose” another restaurant not far from there, and considered to be among the best, if not the best, Korean restaurant in town: Hanwoori.
