Ap Gu Jung
1642 Robson Street
Vancouver, BC

At work, I seldom go to lunch with my work colleagues. One of the main reasons is my wacky eating time, i.e., I usually go for lunch a couple of minutes before noon, whereas my colleagues usually go afterwards. However, if agreed in advance, I can hold off until then. In this case, I checked with a work colleague (whom works in a different department) to go for lunch. The reason? Well, I have known him for a long time and, since I started working there, I thought it would be a good idea to break bread with some good old pals. Unfortunately, we needed to go to a close-by place, as we both had meetings around 1:00 p.m. (some times, it makes me wonder why people set up meetings starting at 11:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m….) And Ap Gu Jung seemed to be a good idea.

This is one of the few instances I did not take a picture of outside of the restaurants… Sorry!

Sura Korean Restaurant
1518 Robson Street
Vancouver, BC

It is funny that in the 1500 and 1600 blocks of Robson Street, there are 5 Korean restaurants plus a food stand inside Robson Market plus another in the side streets. Even funnier? I work near that area and, so far, I have not blogged any one of them! Well, I did blog Jang Mo Jib, however, that was for the Burnaby location. Anyway, probably I should start doing so and the first one is Sura Korean Restaurant.

Ma Dang Coul

Now that I am settled (work-wise) in Vancouver West End, where to go for lunch should not be a problem, right? I mean, all the options around… Well, actually that might be the problem. Too many places, which one to go? So, after I came back from my trip to Merrillville/Chicago, rather than think where to go, I just selected one randomly, in this case, Ma Dang Coul.

Kenzo Japanese Noodle House

We are all aware of the ramen restaurants in Downtown Vancouver (Benkei, Motomachi Shokudo and Kintaro). With their popularity, it was just a matter of time for that type of shops to expand to other neighborhoods, like Menya near Broadway @ Cambie. And then there is Kenzo, located in the Middlegate area in Kingsway…

Jang Mo Jib (Burnaby)

For some reason, in my mind, Jang Mo Jib is one of the most sucessful Korean restaurants. After all, why would they open several locations in Metro Vancouver? Having been there previously… OK, not really, it was in a food court but you know what I mean. That one experience was a positive one and, since it was in a food court, that gave me reason enough to visit one of their full fledged restaurant. In this case, their most recent location, in Burnaby, near Metrotown.
