Darya Restaurant
1795 Pendrell Street
Vancouver, BC

I have walked Robson, Denman and Davie Street so many times that, for the most part, I am aware of all the restaurants. Or so I thought. When I was walking back one day from English back to work, I noticed a restaurant just off Denman that, last time I remembered, was a Chinese restaurant. I guess it went under and now a Middle Easter/Persian restaurant – Darya Restaurant. Since I had lunch already, I put that in my lunch to visit queue. That opportunity came a couple of weeks ago and, as it has been a lot of times already in my lunches on work days, PO was tagging along.

Bistrot Bistro
1961 W 4th Ave
Vancouver, BC

I will be straight to the point, this post was scheduled on purpose for Good Friday… Read the why further down below!
Darina has mentioned a couple of times one of her favourite restaurants is Bistrot Bistro. With that in mind, Sherman (his posts of this visit here) had an interesting plan for it. Along with Mijune and myself, we went there with somewhat high expectations. The question was whether it would deliver – that is specially considering the last time we dine out together at La Brasserie, things went a bit sideways.

Rehanah’s Roti
2518 St Johns Street
Port Moody, BC

For the most part, I have been blogging restaurants in Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and Richmond (*shakes fist!!!*). Once in a while, I go outside those boundaries but those instances are far and in between. In a wacky way, I thought I should start visiting those areas and, for my first visit, a restaurant that Sherman has enthusiastically suggested: Rehanah’s Roti. Caribbean food in Port Moody? Hey, it works for me!

Lola
2000 4th Ave
Seattle, WA

In most major cities, there is a local celebrity chef. In Vancouver, we have figures like Rob Feenie (prior to his departure of Lumiere and Feenie’s), John Bishop, Robert Clark (known for the Ocean Wise program) and so on. In Seattle, you have Tom Douglas, who has open five restaurants with different types of cuisine. For today’s post, my visit to one of them: Lola.

La Brasserie
1091 Davie Street
Vancouver, BC

As mentioned in a previous post, I have been trying to meet other food bloggers. While I have met Darina of Gratinée previously, it was just for coffee. So, when she suggested us to meet in a restaurant (and, of course, with other food bloggers), there was no way I won’t go. After throwing suggestions, the place ended up being La Brasserie.

eh! Restaurant
1050 Alberni Street
Vancouver, BC

Had you walked the two blocks in Alberni Street between Burrard and Bute last year and compare it to this year, you won’t believe the shift it has occured. Where it used to host a series of stores, it has now shifted to restaurants. Coast, Italian Kitchen, Saltlik (which was closed and now re-opened as Townhall) and Market by Jean-Georges . However, at the same time, some places closed, like the food fair in the corner of Alberni and Thurlow and Kaplan’s Star Deli have closed. However, there was one place – eh! Restaurant – that I have walked by a couple dozen times already and did not pay to much attention but suddenly became really curious for other reasons – name aside, that is, eh.

My Big Fat Greek Restaurant
4218 N Scottsdale Road
Scottsdale, AZ

Somebody will have to explain to me where that phrase came to exist. I mean, I know of that sleeper movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” which was followed by a TV series “My Big Fat Greek Life”. And then there is an unrelated show called “My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance” and “My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss”. I will not push that “My Big Fat” theme any longer, other than, when I saw the name of this restaurant, My Big Fat Greek Restaurant, all the worst cliches of the world came to my mind…
