Out of the meals I have had so far in Miramar, most of you might think: “hey, your overall experience was below par, eh?”. Again, as mentioned in my post yesterday of Eddie Hill’s Sushi Thai, there was a great meal and the main dish was ceviche. However, it won’t be blogged for personal reasons. Given the case, I will be straight to the point: the meal at Che Pibe Argentinian Grill was great…

Another lunch, another dilemma. Where to go for lunch? Come to think about it, that’s a problem I am even having here in Vancouver, as I have visited most of the places near my workplace! Of course, while travelling, the problem is rather what are the places you can find nearby. Anyway, similar to what happened in my prior post, I looked for a place “nearby” – this time, I ended up in Cancun Grill. Now, frequent readers of this blog might remember my bias against Mexican food; however, on this trip, I was more open. Could it be because I was a hungry and needed something fast? :D

La Carreta

In a somewhat strange turn of events, I was sent with really short notice to the south east “corner” of the US for a customer engagement (I could, of course, tell you who that is but that also means I must… Errr, let’s stop there, OK? ;) ). In a way, I am grateful as I have been “stranded” in the last couple of months and I need this break. Come to think about it, it has been a long time since my last trip – Richmond, Virginia! So, without further ado, from Miramar, Florida…!

Before I continue on my first post, a reminder: Miramar is not that far from Miami (20 or something miles north-northwest of Miami), which happens to be a hot spot for Latin Americans (with 65% of the population being Latino or Hispanic and +70% with Spanish as first language). As a result, you can expect a lot of Latin American cuisine nearby. It shouldn’t be surprising then that, for this first post, it would be of a Latin American themed restaurant: La Carreta (which literally can be translated as “The Cart”), which happens to be a chain restaurant. Now, before any of you start bashing me, as a reminder, I had little notice so I did not really have too much time to plan the places I should go and, despite I had a car available, traffic was a bit tricky not to mention limited lunch time. Anyway, putting all these aside, my thoughts based on my visit to La Carreta!

Since the Canada Line opened (which opening I blogged here), I have meant to visit the Cambie area. For reference purposes, businesses on this street were severely impacted because of its construction and I am hoping it returns to its former glory. So, to check how things are going, I went to the area between Broadway and King Edward Street. The one place that caught my attention between these two streets? A new shop: Las Tortas Mexican Gourmet Sandwiches (which I will just call Las Tortas).

Latin Summer Fest 2009

by KimHo on August 23, 2009 · 8 comments under: British Columbia,Events,Food

In the last month or so, I have been blogging the different festivals in Vancouver and more often than not, I post about it on Sunday. However, this one is slightly different. In previous posts, the festivals were two day (or more) festivities and I usually attend the first day. However, Latin Summer Fest, which is the celebration of the Latin American countries, always take place on a Sunday – this year, August 16. So, in a way, this post is a week late… ^_^;;;

Now, unlike my previous visits to festivals, I asked Ms. H to join me and along was also Drea of TBDFBTI. While waiting for them (I arrived “early”), I went around Trout Lake (the festivities take place in the parking lot of the community centre there) and looked around. So, enjoy this photo essay of the Latin Summer Fest 2009!

Edit: Kevin of 604 Foodtography also blogged about this event! Check it here.

I swear this exactly the same banner used last year, except they “changed” the date.

Whenever I look for “new” places to try, I usually check other people’s blog. Once in a while, I listen to readers. A couple of months ago, when I wrote about Panaderia Latina Bakery, fmed mentioned about another Latin American bakery in Nanaimo Street. It was only a matter of time for me to visit it, which I did last week.

El Inka Deli (Revisited)

During the food bloggers dinner we had last month in Alvin Garden, the topic of other regional cuisines was brought up by Sherman (this was regarding a comment where it “accused” Sherman of visiting way to many Chinese restaurants). At the end of that conversation, Sherman said he should try Latin American and asked me to bring him along next time I went to one such restaurant. Now, rather than going to a place I haven’t been previously, I chose one I have blogged before: El Inka Deli (previous post here). And, tagging along, we had TS of [eatingclub]Vancouver. Would I live to expectations? Pressure is on!
