Abdul’s BBQ
Crystal Mall

About a month ago, I wrote a post about Falafel Maison, a Middle Eastern, shawarma restaurant in Downtown Vancouver when reader Koji mentioned Abdul’s BBQ, a similar place in Crystal Mall (overlooking Kingsway). This is a place I have been in the past; however, that was before I started blogging. For some reason, I haven’t been back in a long time and when he mentioned it, I thought, hey, why not!

During the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games, there were some restaurants I hoped they were open on time during the Games. One of those restaurants that barely opened in time was Santouka. One I wished it had open but failed was Gyuu Don Ya. And how I found it was still closed? Because I walked all the way there! Since I was hungry and needed to eat quick, I browsed nearby options. Kushi Box? Nope, done. Viet Sub? Matoi Sushi? H-Mart? Done and done. Among the remaining ones was Falafel Maison. OK, lunch it is!

Last year, I did some guest blogging and, in one of the guest posts, I wrote about Anatolia’s Gate, a small Middle Eastern/Turkist restaurant in Middlegate. It has been almost a year I went there and, while technically is not a revisit (it wasn’t blogged here), I thought the food was worth further visits. OK, I fibbed, I was on my way home and Anatolia’s Gate happened to be on the way, hehehehehe.

In a funny way, just after I wrote a post on potatoes (poutine!), I now write yet another post on… Potatoes! Let me reassure you, it is partially pure coincidence! A couple of weeks ago, while walking around English Bay, I noticed a new shop preparing themselves for opening. At first, I wasn’t sure what was it about, except there was a really funny potato-like figure as “mascot”. So patiently awaited their opening…

Just like last week, where I ended up with several post on Latin American food/festivals… No, this is not revisit week! Some time ago, I wrote I would revisit places and blog about it again if somebody provides a convincing enough reason for me to do so. In this case, two “arguments” were given from Babylon Cafe and Momo Sushi House. So, without further ado!

I will have to blame Drea from TBDFBTI on this one. While I won’t disclose the exact details of what we talked about (other than references to on-line activities), the end result was me meeting with somebody I have never met previously in the Starbucks of Davie and Thurlow. After that meeting, I realized it was a bit past my usual lunchtime! So, that gave me an interesting perspective. On a normal work day, while I could walk all the way to this area, I will seldom do this back and forth trip, as it would consume most of my lunch time. (Technically, I have flex hours so I could take a 2 hour lunch if I wanted to, as long as I put my required hours. But, why do that?). This gave me an interesting opportunity… So, after checking the nearby options, I settled for Donair King.
