McDonald’s S’mores Pie

by KimHo on December 12, 2009 · 11 comments under: British Columbia,Food

OK, this is a totally random post: As you should have noticed already, I have created a Twitter account and, well, for good or for bad, have been “following” other fellow food bloggers. Yesterday, Mijune (of Follow Me Foodie) wrote this tweet:

Whoa! NEW S’mores Pie 2 for $1.39 at…McDonald’s!! I haven’t tried it yet, anyone else try it?

Later, Sherman (of Sherman’s Food Adventures) “replies”

@followmefoodie It looked scary to me… I didn’t try it. You go ahead and tell me about it! LOL…

Now, I am making an assumption here that Sherman was replying to Mijune’s tweet above, as there were other in-between tweets, including this one:

Did u do my apple pie trick? Tell them to make u an apple pie McFlurry…vanilla ice cream & ask to blend ur apple pie in it :) @kathygko

If my assumptions are correct, then, the only thing I can say is… C’mon, people, I can’t believe you won’t give it a try! :P

Since I was near a MickeyD’s, I thought “hey, let’s give it a try!”. So, here it is, MickeyD’s S’mores Pie!

No, no kidding! When I was in New York City, as per today’s earlier post, I noticed certain familiar coffee shop, hehehehe. I know, everybody has his/her opinion of Tim Horton’s but this post is not about that. After all, I was not following the Where Should I Eat? Fast Food Flowchart! Instead, this post is about how does their offerings compare to the ones found here.

After my burger in Moderne Burger, I was ready to drive back and continue for the rest of the day… Almost… I remembered the previous time I tried to go to Moderne Burger, there was a shop with an opening soon sign. The name of the to-be-open-soon shop? Thomas Haas… Yes, the same Thomas Haas in North Vancouver! (And which I blogged a bit over a year ago, check it here). Sure, I was still full from the burger but, hey, that does not mean I can’t buy something for later!

Boulangerie Cho Pain

Days after my dinner with Mijune, I was on my usual search of places I have not been in Vancouver’s West End area. Despite I have been food blogging for over a year already, I am amazed that there are still a lot of places in this area I haven’t been yet. But, then again, I don’t blog every day on places in this area. That day was particularly “bad” weather-wise, which, in Vancouver, translates to a “rain” (which really means a drizzle…) and wanted something different. Poncho’s? Nope. Knight and Day? Nope. (But, despite Sherman’s thoughts about this place, I might as well do it soon “just because”). That reminded me of a bakery that Mijune said was in Davie Street which I had to go: Boulangerie Cho Pain. After that lengthy conversation I had that night, I was sure I wasn’t going to be disappointed…

I am not a fan of dogs (or pets in general); in this case I couldn’t help it. It was darn difficult to get a “clear” shot of the store…

Before settling the bill in Baru Latino (as mentioned in yesterday’s post), Mijune (of Follow Me Foodie) and I were deciding if we should get dessert. In the case of Baru Latino, they had some offerings but, as mentioned in that post, it was so dark, I might as well wonder what we were actually eating. Instead, we chose to go somewhere else. Two options popped out: True Confections which was just across the street and Trafalgars Bistro. You can pretty much guess where we ended up by the title of this post, hehehehe.

Note: Today, I have a two-post “special”. The “other” post – Vancouver’s Bakers Market, can be found here.

A week and a half ago, during Thanksgiving weekend (as a reminder for non-Canadian readers, specially if you are from the US: we celebrate Thanksgiving in the second Monday for October), I was invited to my family friend CL’s home. Wait, did I say family friend? Don’t my parents live in Panama? I have a long history with CL, since he has known me since I was a child, before he moved to Canada and my parents moved to Panama. And, what happened when I moved here to Canada? Originally I was planning to go to Toronto but my mother “suggested” me I should go to Vancouver and stay at CL’s place instead. I am very thankful for what he has done for me on all these years and there was absolutely no what I won’t accept his invite to have the Thanksgiving dinner at his home. But, but… Despite I was the only non-family guest and was assured there was no need for me to bring anything, I won’t show up empty handed. Originally, I wanted to go to Fratelli’s to bring a cake or pie but, alas, it was closed (I forgot they are closed on Sundays). I thought then “I guess I will have to fall back on buying something from Save-on-Foods…”. That was until I was driving north on Commercial Drive when I recalled another nearby bakery and that fellow blogger Sherman wrote about previously: Uprising Breads Bakery.

Although Vancouver is nowhere near the largest cities in the world, at least we have lots of eateries and food related events. Where to go? What to eat? While I am sure a lot of us food bloggers have filled that niche to a certain extent, there is still the question: where do *we* look for events/places to eat? We look at each other, of course! Fellow blogger Mijune of Follow Me Foodie wrote about a bakers market not long ago and, while I have overgrown that mad desire for sweets and not fond in any way of cupcakes, I thought “hey, why not!”. So, ready with some insulin along, I went to the local Vancouver’s Bakers Market.
