Pho Maxima Restaurant
822 20th Street
New Westminster, BC

OK, it has been almost two weeks since I came back from Seattle and I am not finally starting to catch up with my post on Vancouver restaurants. I think that, for comparison purposes, Seattle can give a run to Vancouver’s Canadian dollars in terms of food but, in the end, I am biased towards Vancouver, hehehehe.
Anyway, after I was back, the eternal question popped out the following morning: Hungry… Food… Where? The truth is that I need something “soft” to the stomach. After all, I ate way too much fatty/fried food while in Seattle! So, in a way, I short listed myself to soup, congee and noodles. But, since I was doing errands in the Edmonds area, I decided to drop by a pho place that might easily fly over almost everybody’s radar simply because it is in an odd place: a strip mall in 20th Street – a street that usually carries heavy traffic (because it directs you to the Queensborough bridge) but not much else.

My Chau
1715 Kingsway
Vancouver, BC

On the night Anita, Mijune and I watched Did You Hear About the Morgans? (as mentioned here), we went to Breka Bakery (which Mijune blogged, here). Due to some wacky circumstance, we went through Kingsway and, while driving through, we were mentioning about different good spots for food in this Vancouver main road, including House of Dosas, which was blogged here. Another place that was mentioned was My Chau which seems to have some really good pho…

Triple Coconut Tree Restaurant
4124 Hastings Street
Burnaby, BC

There are areas in Metro Vancouver that I do not visit often due to several reasons – Vancouver West Side and Kitsilano “just because”, Coquitlam and Surrey due to it being “far”, Richmond because of their crazy drivers and so on. There is an area that I have not blogged much about for absolutely no reason, other than probably laziness: North Burnaby. So, during that week where an arctic front was hitting Vancouver and I was looking something to warm myself and, rather than go to the usual places for a bowl of noodles/ramen/pho, I decided to go to North Burnaby. The place I ended up going? Triple Coconut Tree Restaurant.

Thai Son
3 Locations in Vancouver
373 E Broadway (Location visited)
Vancouver, BC

OK, this is one of those “lost in the pile” blog posts. Under normal circumstances, I am quite diligent with all my blog posts, i.e., I have them in a queue ready to go. This one instance… Well, it slipped through. How so? It just that this is about a place I visited over a month ago, unlike my usual week or so queue. And what happened a month ago? My trip to New Jersey! It just happens I visited Thai Son during the crazy rainy days before I left to New Jersey and had everything ready to go. Somehow, it was in the queue of eternal draft mode until I realized it was still there. How silly of me. So, without further ado… Thai Son in Broadway!

Pho Viet Vietnamese Fine Cuisine

So one night, while driving through Kingsway after an errand, I ran into the eternal question that pops when your stomach starts grumbling: Food, where??? That quickly remind me of a Vietnamese restaurant I was pending a visit. After a couple of turns, I arrived at Pho Viet.

Pho Number One
1120 Denman Street
Vancouver, BC

In my continuing blog of restaurants in the West End, I went to one of my first restaurant I visited after moving to the West End, Pho Number One. Back then, I liked the food and visited it every once in a while. But, when I moved out, going all the way down just for a bowl of pho was no longer an option, not to mention I started to expand my horizon. But, about a year or so ago, I heard there was a change of ownership and, as a result, was not sure what to expect anymore…

Pho Number One, located next to Tanpopo, Qoola and Dulcinea, the last two blogged previously.

Alberni Food Fair

I once wrote this about food courts:
“Food courts in Metro Vancouver (and North America in general) are, more often than not, just places for you to buy something, sit on a table and eat it. Whether is something edible, good for you, entertainment or anything on these lines, well, just don’t raise your expectations“.
Of course, there are always exceptions to those rules. For example, the one instance when I visited Crystal Mall’s food court and had BBQ duck and BBQ pork. Of course, that could be an exception to the rule, after all, Crystal Mall is one the lines of a Chinese/Oriental mall. Now, what are the chances I would like a food court in Downtown Vancouver, surrounded by high end restaurants?

Entrance in Thurlow street.
